What is HIPAA and why is it important?
EZEC® stores your personal medical information in our secure, HIPAA-compliant environment and gives you control over who you share it with.
So, what does HIPAA-compliant mean?
The Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law enacted in 1996 that sets standards for how medical information is securely stored and shared. To comply with the HIPAA security standards, all HIPAA-compliant entities must do the following:
- Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all electronic protected health information
- Detect and safeguard against anticipated threats to the security of information
- Protect against anticipated impermissible uses or disclosures
- Certify compliance by their workforce
Why is this vital to EZEC, and more importantly, to you?
HIPAA compliance demonstrates our commitment to you and your data security. EZEC empowers customers to choose the level at which they are comfortable sharing each element of their medical information. You may choose some information to be public, meaning any person who scans your EZEC Medical ID jewelry can see that information. You may then choose to make more detailed medical information private and available only to First Responders and emergency medical teams. And, there may be information that you want privately documented, and would prefer to share at your discretion. By allowing you to choose which information you share, when, and with whom - and by maintaining high levels of compliance within our organization, and agreements we have with our partners – we are ensuring that your information stays secure and protected.
